Hockey Afternoon in YUL (Montreal) !
ATS 1st Annual Basketball Tournament
HOCKEY NIGHT 2006 YYZ Victory is Sweet!
Breaking News: May 7th, 2005
|
The fourth ATS hockey tournament between YUL and YOW/YYZ (Ottawa, Toronto) was held on Saturday April 14, 2007, and for the second year in a row, the YOW/YYZ won the match with a final score of 6-3. I think that everyone who was there will agree that fun and team spirit were the order of the day. We ATS’ers rarely have the opportunity to meet outside the office and even less to meet other depots. One thing is for sure, when it does happen it’s a real joy. Without team spirit and the closeness of the contacts, gatherings like this one would not be possible. It is because of these same meetings that on the following Monday, despite a few sore muscles in some cases, there is renewed energy and broad smiles. To all the folks from YYZ/YOW, thank you for coming in such great numbers again this year. You were worthy opponents and you can be sure of one thing: YUL is not giving up and we’ll be back next year.
On Saturday April 28th ATS YYZ hosted its first B-Ball Tournament at the Sega Playdium in Mississauga, it was an open event to all ATSers or anyone daring enough to pull on those tear-off pants and put a their game face on. The match-up promised to be a fun event for everyone attending, and it delivered just that. The anticipation was high among the players in the days leading up to tip off, as teams were formed prior to the event, so the trash talking took hold, which of course I wouldn’t dare repeat in this edition, but let’s just say, it elevated the testosterone level in most Players, as they came out prepared to bring their “A” game forward, while defending their tough words. The weather forecast was not typical Basket Ball weather, as it promised and delivered a whopping 13 degrees Celsius under cloudy skies, with a 30% chance of a shower. Nevertheless the rain retreated and our players came out to play and a fun time was had by all. We also want to take this time to acknowledge the organizers of this event thank you all for your time and effort.
After being shut out for the prior 2 years, YYZ finally won one over the hockey champs from YUL. On May 6th, 2006 YYZ and YUL squared off for the ATS Cup at Iceland Arena in Mississauga. It was a tough game for both sides (as our legs and lungs are not what they used to be) but YYZ escaped with a 6-5 win, narrowly capturing the cup for the first time. Thanks to Mike D. for acting as our referee. Hey Mike make sure you keep your head up, I think Steve B was hunting for you after the two penalty shots you awarded YUL. Congratulations to all participants!
Saturday March 27, 2004 marked the beginning of an era, and a loss of innocence. It was on that day that ATS Toronto and ATS Montreal locked horns and went to battle in Boucherville Quebec. Team YYZ arrived with hope, confidence, and were lucky to leave with some dignity. Being drubbed 9-3 by Team YUL will do that to you. All kidding aside, this was a fantastic opportunity to have a good time playing Canada’s National pastime, while getting to meet so many of our great contacts within the ATS family. Our friends in Montreal came prepared with cheerleaders, composite sticks, and an absolute ringer for a goaltender… but who is keeping track anyhow? Once the corporal punishment was finished being administered by Team YUL, both teams decided to mix up the rosters, and swap sweaters, having both YUL and YYZ players scattered on each team. From sitting up in the crowd, I could see so many positives. The effort put forth to organize this event, the teamwork on the ice, the good natured environment… it was just a nice thing to witness. The success of our great organization can be significantly if not solely contributed to the people, and the teamwork exhibited between them. Reprinted from the ATS newsletter, |
